White Sox draft Reinsdorf's grandson on final day
CHICAGO -- The 40th and final-round selection for the White Sox in the 2015 MLB Draft should have a very familiar sound to the team's fan base.
Joseph Reinsdorf, an 18-year-old graduate of New Trier High School, was seen during his younger days celebrating with his grandfather and White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf when the team won the World Series title in 2005.
"We think he's probably going to be a tough sign," said a smiling White Sox general manager Rick Hahn of the son of Michael Reinsdorf, who is the Chicago Bulls' president and COO. "We had gotten to the point where our rookie rosters were full, so we decided to take a great kid who we've known basically his entire life."
To add to the surprise, dad and grandfather tricked Joseph into being in the Draft room for the final few rounds, so he was there for the selection. It looks as if a bright academic future at Northwestern University will supplant any ideas of signing into the family business.
"We'll talk to the mom and dad -- and hopefully not the grandfather -- and try to get something done," said Hahn with a laugh. "We think he's probably going to college, so it's going to be tough."
