Pipeline Preview: Jimenez set for Double-A debut

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (White Sox No. 2), Birmingham vs. Montgomery (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
MLB Pipeline's No. 7 overall prospect and his powerful bat are headed for Double-A. It was announced Tuesday that Jimenez was being promoted to Birmingham from Class A Advanced Winston-Salem, where he slashed .345/.410/.682 with 20 extra-base hits including eight home runs in 29 games after going from the Cubs to the White Sox in the . Spending his entire season in the Carolina League, the 20-year-old outfielder hit .302/.375/.570 with 16 homers in 71 games.

Pitcher to watch: Cionel Perez (Astros' No. 10), Corpus Christi at Tulsa (5:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Speaking of Double-A debuts, Perez is set to make his with Corpus Christi in Game 1 of a doubleheader after his scheduled start was rained out Tuesday. Signed for $2 million in December, Perez, a 21-year-old left-hander, was promoted to the Texas League after going 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA and an 18-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 25 1/3 innings with Class A Advanced Buies Creek. Including his time in the Midwest League, Perez has pitched to a 3.90 ERA with 73 strikeouts and 22 walks over 80 2/3 frames in his first U.S. campaign.

Duel of the day: Jacob Nix (Padres' No. 15) vs. Ryan Helsley (Cardinals' No. 24), San Antonio at Springfield (7:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Nix, 21, owns a 4.91 ERA through two starts for Double-A San Antonio. The right-hander received a no-decision last time out, allowing four earned runs over six innings with six strikeouts after tossing five innings of two-run ball to pick up the win in his Texas League debut. The 2015 third-rounder was promoted to San Antonio after he posted a 4.32 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings (11 appearances) in the Class A Advanced California League.

Helsley fired six no-hit frames, compiling six strikeouts and five walks, in his last start for Springfield, his third since being promoted to the Texas League. A fifth-round Draft pick in 2015, Helsley, 23, was bumped up to Springfield after he went 8-2 with a 2.69 ERA with 91 strikeouts and a .213 opponents' average over 93 2/3 frames (17 appearances) in the Florida State League.
