White Sox opener vs. Royals postponed

Game won't be made up during current series; Latos to pitch Sunday

May 27th, 2016

KANSAS CITY -- Thursday's game between the White and Royals was postponed because of a threat of severe weather. No makeup date was set, although the Royals announced it will not take place during the current series.
"It doesn't look all that good when you get some notices on your phone," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of receiving a flash-flood warning before the announcement of the postponement.
The first two pitching matchups of the series will remain the same, just pushed back a day. White Sox right-hander Miguel Gonzalez will face off against Royals lefty Danny Duffy on Friday night. Left-hander Carlos Rodon will face Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura on Saturday.
As for Sunday, Robin Ventura alluded on Thursday to a couple of different ways he could go. He initially said right-hander Mat Latos would be the starter, but after talking it over, he decided on left-hander Chris Sale.
"A lot of things go into it," Ventura said before Friday's game. "There are plenty of options ... It just made a little more sense to have [Sale] go Sunday."
Sale will face off against Royals right-hander Edinson Volquez to close out the shortened series at 1:15 p.m. CT.
