Rain washes out White Sox game in Detroit
Contest rescheduled as part of day-night twinbill Sept. 21; Ventura grateful for support
DETROIT -- Robin Ventura appreciates the strong show of support from White Sox executive vice president Ken Williams, who backed the White Sox manager and his staff during a conversation with the media on Friday.

It's the sort of support Ventura has received all season from Williams, general manager Rick Hahn and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, so it wasn't unexpected. But it was still one less point of clutter, so to speak, as Ventura tries to guide this team back from a rough 32-41 start.
"What is it, the old kiss of death?" said a smiling Ventura of Williams' support. "No, we have very frank conversations of what's going on with players and how we're going about it. But that's always been the case.

"He could have added to it, but he didn't. I think at this point, he knows what we're doing in here, and even at home, they come in and there are discussions going on, so he is aware of how we're working, talks, everything else. He could have probably done that, created clutter, but he didn't.
"For us, that doesn't change how we go about it today," Ventura said. "You come in here, and all I know is that, as a coaching staff, we work as hard as we can to get it going in the right direction and try to win today's game."
Today for Ventura and the White Sox became tomorrow due to nonstop rain in Detroit.
The third game of the four-game series between the Tigers and White Sox, scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park, was postponed due to inclement weather. The contest now will be part of a split doubleheader on Monday, Sept. 21, with the first game starting at 12:08 p.m. CT and the second game starting at 6:08 p.m.
John Danks was set to start Saturday, but his turn will be skipped. Jeff Samardzija takes his regular spot Sunday in the series finale, with Chris Sale pitching Tuesday in St. Louis and Jose Quintana getting the ball Wednesday. Rookie Carlos Rodon also gets an extra few days of rest after his start Thursday, as he has been following Sale in the rotation.
