White Sox, A's reportedly close to Lawrie deal
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The White Sox are in serious talks with the Oakland A's to acquire Brett Lawrie, per a report from the San Francisco Chronicle late Tuesday night.
According to the report, Lawrie is close to being moved for a pair of Minor Leaguers. The report went on to say that the two names were still being discussed, but Lawrie essentially was agreed upon.
Lawrie, 25, produced a career-high 16 homers, 60 RBIs and 29 doubles for Oakland last season. He hit .260 with 144 strikeouts over 562 at-bats and a .299 on-base percentage. The 16th pick in the 2008 Draft played 109 games at third and 42 at second in 2015.
Adding the right-handed hitter would seem to fill the South Siders' targeted need at third base. The team has Tyler Saladino at shortstop and the combination of Carlos Sanchez and Micah Johnson at second at the moment.
