White Sox lack big hit in one- or two-run games

BALTIMORE -- One of the most frustrating aspects of the White Sox season is they simply have not been able to come up with enough big hits when a victory is within reach.

Chicago is just 32-48 in games decided by one or two runs. After Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Orioles, 107 of Chicago's 139 games (77 percent) have been decided by three runs or fewer.

"We've been scoring some runs of late," first baseman Paul Konerko said. "We usually play hard for nine innings. We try not to think about how other games have gone. But the end result, you can lump it in with the rest of them."

Chicago manager Robin Ventura said all of the team's losses this year have been frustrating, regardless of the score.

"If guys were not continuing to put out effort, than that would be a problem," Ventura said. "But that is not what it is. We're just losing games. We're making one mistake in an inning that can cost you the game."
