White Sox place Brian Bruney on disabled list; Purchase the contract of Brian Omogrosso from Class AAA Charlotte

Prior to tonight's game at the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Brian Bruney on the 15-day disabled list with left hip inflammation and purchased the contract of right-hander Brian Omogrosso from Class AAA Charlotte.

Omogrosso, 27, is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA (15 ER/33.0 IP), two saves, 40 strikeouts and a .228 (28-123) opponents average over 21 relief appearances this season with the Knights.  The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder owns 1.42 ERA (2 ER/12.2 IP) over his last nine appearances.

Omogrosso is 19-20 with a 3.83 (161 ER/378.0 IP) in 164 appearances (33 starts) over seven seasons in the White Sox organization.  He was selected by Chicago in the sixth round of the June 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Omogrosso, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 48.

Bruney, 30, earned the win in his only appearance this season on June 24 vs. Milwaukee, working 1.0 scoreless IP after his contract was purchased from Charlotte earlier that day.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 38.
