The White Sox placed left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon (left shoulder rehabilitation) and catcher Kevan Smith (sprained left ankle) on the 10-day disabled list, both retroactive to Monday, and purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago.
With the moves, Chicago's 25-man Opening Day roster will include 13 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders. The 40-man roster is full.
Rodon missed all of Spring Training while recovering from arthroscopic shoulder surgery in September and is expected back in early June. The 24-year-old had a delayed start to last season, too, debuting on June 28 due to biceps bursitis. He posted a 4.15 ERA through 12 starts (69 1/3 innings) until he was shut down with shoulder inflammation in September.

Santiago, 30, will begin the year as a long reliever in the Chicago bullpen after losing out on the battle for the fifth spot in the rotation to Carson Fulmer. Santiago, who signed a Minor League deal with the White Sox in February, is coming off a strong spring in which he compiled a 2.25 ERA through 16 innings, while striking out 18 batters against seven walks.
Smith was in the mix to make the Opening Day roster at catcher, but will instead begin the season on the DL due to his ankle sprain. He split backstop duties with Omar Narvaez in 2017, batting .283 with 21 extra-base hits and 30 RBIs in 87 games.
