White Sox place Jennings on DL; Purchase contract of Guerra from AAA Charlotte

CHICAGO - Prior to today's game vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed left-handed pitcher Dan Jennings on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 5) with inflammation on the left side of his neck and purchased the contract of right-hander Junior Guerra from Class AAA Charlotte.

Guerra, 30, has gone 2-6 with a 2.72 ERA (15 ER/49.2 IP) and 66 strikeouts in 12 games (eight starts) this season between Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte. The 6-foot, 205-pound Guerra has limited opponents to a .202 average (35-173) while averaging 11.96 strikeouts per 9.0 IP.

A native of San Felix, Venezuela, Guerra began the season with Birmingham, going 2-3 with a 2.29 ERA (5 ER/19.2 IP) and 26 strikeouts in five games (three starts) before being promoted to Charlotte on May 5. He was 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA (10 ER/30.0 IP) and 40 strikeouts in seven games (five starts) with the Knights, the last two of which came out of the bullpen.

Guerra, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 63. He was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on October 28, 2014.

Jennings, 28, has gone 1-2 with a 7.83 ERA (20 ER/23.0 IP) and 21 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances this season, his first with the White Sox after being acquired from Miami on December 11, 2014.
