White Sox Purchase Contracts of Brandon Brennan and J.B. Wendelken

The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contracts of right-handed pitchers Brandon Brennan and J.B. Wendelken from Class AAA Charlotte.

Brennan, 24, went 3-4 with a 3.55 ERA (23 ER/58.1 IP), 39 strikeouts and just two home runs allowed over 12 starts with Class A Winston-Salem in 2015 after missing the beginning of the season due to a strained chest muscle. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Brennan appeared in six games (five starts) with Glendale in the Arizona Fall League, going 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18.0 IP) and 13 strikeouts.

Brennan, a native of Mission Viejo, Calif., has gone 15-16 with a 4.15 ERA (113 ER/245.0 IP) in 55 career appearances (48 starts) over four seasons (2012-15) in the White Sox minor-league system. He originally was selected by Chicago in the fourth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Wendelken, 22, combined to go 6-2 with a 3.20 ERA (21 ER/59.0 IP), five saves and 69 strikeouts in 39 relief appearances with Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham in 2015. The 6-foot, 220-pound Wendelken limited opponents to a .221 average (50-226), including a .213 mark vs. lefties. He appeared in four games with Glendale in the AFL.

A native of Guyton, Ga., Wendelken has gone 17-14 with a 4.10 ERA (139 ER/305.0 IP), 19 saves and 304 strikeouts in 115 career appearances (27 starts) over four seasons (2012-15) between the Chicago and Boston organizations. He was acquired by the White Sox from the Red Sox as part of a three-team, seven-player trade on July 30, 2013.
