White Sox purchase the contract cf Leyson Septimo from Class AAA Charlotte; Designate Will Ohman for assignment

Prior to tonight’s game at the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of left-hander Leyson Septimo from Class AAA Charlotte and designated left-handed pitcher Will Ohman for assignment.

Septimo, 26, is 2-1 with a 1.48 ERA (5 ER/30.1 IP), one save, 39 strikeouts and a .135 (14-104) opponents average over 21 relief appearances this season with the Knights.  The .135 mark would be the lowest among relievers in the International League with the necessary batters faced.  He has limited left-handed hitters to an .095 (4-42) average against with 16 strikeouts in 2012.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder was a non-roster invitee to White Sox spring training this season.  Septimo is 4-2 with a 2.70 (17 ER/56.2 IP) in 43 appearances over two seasons in the White Sox organization.  He was claimed off waivers from Arizona on June 13, 2011.

Septimo, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 52.

Ohman, 34, went 0-2 with a 6.41 ERA (19 ER/26.2 IP) in 32 appearances in 2012 and was 1-5 with a 4.95 ERA (44 ER/80.0 IP) in 91 games over two seasons with the White Sox.  Ohman was signed as a free agent on January 10, 2011.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 37.
