White Sox purchase the contracts of three players

The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contracts of outfielder Adam Engel, right-handed pitcher Brad Goldberg and outfielder Jacob May from Class AAA Charlotte and outrighted right-hander Brandon Brennan to Charlotte.

The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contracts of outfielder Adam Engel, right-handed pitcher Brad Goldberg and outfielder Jacob May from Class AAA Charlotte and outrighted right-hander Brandon Brennan to Charlotte.
Engel, 24, combined to hit .259 (132-510) with 30 doubles, 12 triples, seven home runs, 46 RBI, 90 runs scored, 45 stolen bases and a .344 on-base percentage over 129 games between Class A Winston-Salem, Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte in 2016. He ranked among the White Sox organizational leaders in triples (1st), runs scored (1st), stolen bases (1st), extra-base hits (T1st, 49), total bases (3rd, 207), doubles (4th) and hits (T5th). Engel, who tied for fifth in the minor leagues in stolen bases, entered 2016 ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 Prospect, Fastest Baserunner and Best Defensive Outfielder in Chicago's system.
Engel is a career .264 hitter (450-1,706) with 82 doubles, 34 triples, 24 home runs, 157 RBI, 295 runs scored, 179 stolen bases, 177 walks and a .344 on-base percentage over 424 games in the White Sox organization (2013-16). He originally was selected by the Sox in the 19th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville.
Goldberg, 26, was 3-5 with a 2.70 ERA (17 ER/56.2 IP), 10 saves and 51 strikeouts in 47 relief appearances between Birmingham and Charlotte in 2016. He was named an International League midseason All-Star and ranked second in the White Sox system in saves. Goldberg is 11-13 with a 3.44 ERA (86 ER/225.0 IP), 26 saves and 220 strikeouts in 137 career games (seven starts) in the Sox organization (2013-16) after being selected in the 10th round of the 2013 draft out of Ohio State University.
May, 24, was limited by injury to 83 games in 2016, hitting .266 (80-301) with 19 doubles, two triples, one home run, 38 runs scored and 19 stolen bases with the Knights. His 19 stolen bases tied for seventh among White Sox farmhands. May entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 5 Prospect in the system. He has appeared in 359 career games in the Sox organization (2013-16), batting .273 (374-1,372) with 73 doubles, 17 triples, 13 homers, 121 RBI, 196 runs scored, 118 stolen bases and a .332 on-base percentage. May was selected by the White Sox in the third round of the 2013 draft out of Coastal Carolina University.
Brennan, 25, combined to go 3-12 with a 6.79 ERA (78 ER/103.1 IP), two complete games and one shutout in 31 games (15 starts) between the Dash and Barons this season. He originally was selected by the White Sox in the fourth round of the June 2012 draft out of Orange Coast College in California
