White Sox recall Chris Beck from Class AAA Charlotte; option Scott Carroll to Charlotte

BALTIMORE - Prior to Game 2 of today's straight doubleheader at Baltimore, the Chicago White Sox optioned right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll to Class AAA Charlotte and recalled right-hander Chris Beck from Charlotte. 

Beck, 24, is scheduled to make his major-league debut as the Game 2 starter. He is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA (17 ER/46.1 IP), 33 strikeouts and a .246 opponents average (44-179) over eight starts (five quality) with Charlotte this season. He has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his last four starts and has limited left-handers to a .197 overall mark (15-76) this season.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Beck went 6-11 with a 3.54 ERA (59 ER/150.0 IP) and one shutout over 27 starts between Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte in 2014. He ranked among the organizational leaders in ERA (4th) and IP (4th).

Beck, a native of Commerce, Ga., has gone 26-26 with a 3.45 ERA (147 ER /383.1 IP), two shutouts and 233 strikeouts in 76 games (67 starts) over four seasons (2012-15) in the White Sox organization. He originally was selected by Chicago in the second round of the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Beck, who served as the 26th player on May 9 vs. Cincinnati but did not pitch, will wear uniform No. 54.

Carroll, 30, has gone 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA (6 ER/17.1 IP) over eight relief appearances since having his contract purchased from Charlotte on April 26.
