Prior to today's series finale vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox recalled third baseman Matt Davidson from Class AAA Charlotte. Davidson, 25, takes the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Matt Purke, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's game.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Davidson is batting .268 (76-284) with 20 doubles, 10 home runs, 46 RBI and 35 runs scored over 75 games with Charlotte this season and was named to the Triple-A All-Star Team. He is tied for the International League lead in doubles and ranks fifth in RBI. Davidson hit .313 (30-96) in June and was 12-27 (.444) with two homers and nine RBI over his last eight games.

Davison is a career .249 (874-3,510) hitter with 133 home runs and 549 RBI in 937 games over eight minor-league seasons. He also appeared in 31 games with Arizona in 2013, batting .237 (18-76) with three homers and 12 RBI.

A native of Yucaipa, Calif., Davidson led the IL with 23 home runs in 2015 and ranked second with 62 walks. He was named by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Third Baseman in the IL.

Davidson, who will wear uniform No. 22, was acquired by the White Sox from Arizona on December 16, 2013 in exchange for right-hander Addison Reed. He originally was drafted by the Diamondbacks with a sandwich pick (35th overall) between the first and second rounds of the 2009 draft.
