White Sox reinstate Jose Abreu from 15-day disabled list

LOS ANGELES - Prior to tonight's game at the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago White Sox reinstated first baseman Jose Abreu from the 15-day disabled list.

Abreu, 27, takes the roster spot of infielder Marcus Semien, who was optioned to Class AAA Charlotte following yesterday's game vs. San Diego. Abreu has been on the disabled list since May 18 with posterior tibia tendinitis in his left ankle.

Abreu is hitting .260 (45-173) with 11 doubles, 15 home runs, 42 RBI and 29 runs scored over 44 games in his first season with Chicago. He ranks among the American League leaders in at-bat to home run ratio (2nd, 11.53), slugging percentage (3rd, .595), home runs (T3rd), RBI (6th), extra-base hits (7th, 27) and OPS (9th, .908). 

He led the majors in homers and ranked second in RBI at the time of his injury.

Abreu was named the AL Player and Rookie of the Month for April. He became the second player ever to win both honors in his first month in the major leagues, joining former Cuban League teammate Yasiel Puig (June 2013).

He established major-league rookie records for home runs (10), RBI (32), extra-base hits (19) and total bases (71) through April.
