White Sox reinstate Matt Albers from Disabled List

Designate Conor Gillaspie for assignment

CHICAGO - Prior to today's game vs. Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox returned right-handed pitcher Matt Albers from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AA Birmingham and reinstated him from the disabled list and designated infielder Conor Gillaspie for assignment.

Albers, 32, has been on the disabled list since April 26 (retroactive to April 20) with a broken right little finger. He made eight appearances between Birmingham and Class AAA Charlotte (6 ER/11.2 IP). Albers suffered his injury during the on-field altercation between the White Sox and Royals on April 23 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Albers is 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA (1 ER/5.2 IP) and four strikeouts over four relief appearances with Chicago this season. He was signed as a free agent on February 13.

Gillaspie, 28, hit .237 (41-173) with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 15 RBI over 58 games with Chicago this season, his third with the club.

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 38.
