MINNEAPOLIS -- The White Sox added a second-generation Major League player to their organization on Wednesday by signing second-round Draft pick Gavin Sheets, a first baseman out of Wake Forest, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com.
Sheets signed for a $2 million bonus, which is over the slot price of about $1.4 million for the 49th pick in the Draft. The club has not confirmed the signing or terms of the deal.
Sheets is the son of former outfielder Larry Sheets, who played for the Orioles, Tigers and Mariners in a career that spanned from 1984-93.

Gavin Sheets was among the top power-hitting prospects in this year's Draft. As a junior, he slashed .322/.429/.634 with 20 home runs in 227 at-bats. He also walked 44 times and struck out just 33, a stellar ratio for a longball specialist.
Sheets bats and throws left-handed, and he checks in at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds -- that's one inch taller and five pounds lighter than White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia, if you're looking for a comparison.
