Wieters gets platelet-rich plasma injection in elbow

KANSAS CITY -- Catcher Matt Wieters, who has been sidelined with a sore right elbow, had a platelet-rich plasma injection in the elbow last Monday, according to Orioles manager Buck Showalter.

After Wieters fully rests from the injection, the Orioles expect to get a more definitive idea about what's going on with the elbow. Showalter has said he would like to know by July 1 whether Wieters can return behind the plate this season.

Meanwhile, Rule 5 infielder Michael Almanzar had a second PRP injection in his right knee on Thursday.
