Wieters taking measured approach with elbow

BALTIMORE -- Orioles catcher Matt Wieters said before Friday's game that they are taking things slowly with his injured elbow and that there is no time frame set to resume throwing.

He was in the lineup again for Friday's series opener against the Astros as the designated hitter, batting fifth.

"Right now, we're going to kind of take it day by day, week by week," Wieters said about throwing.

Wieters was examined by Dr. James Andrews earlier this week for his sore elbow and won't have to go on the disabled list, using rest to help everything settle down.

The catcher said that they're taking everything very carefully and not rushing.

"Throwing will be the key," Wieters said. "That's why we want to make sure it is calmed down before we do throw. That will be the ultimate final test."
