SAN DIEGO -- The T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Petco Park isn't officially until July 11, but you might think otherwise after watching Padres first baseman Wil Myers during the recent homestand.
Myers hit two solo home runs in San Diego's 4-2 loss to the Braves on Wednesday, marking his first multi-homer game in a Padres uniform and accounting for the only runs against Atlanta in the series finale.
"I think he's got all the potential in the world," said Padres manager Andy Green. "I wouldn't want to put any kind of limitation on him whatsoever. To me, from an offensive standpoint, when Wil stays disciplined within his approach and fires off his A swing, he's as good as anybody in the game."
Over the eight-game homestand, Myers hit five home runs -- the most he's hit in his career during such a short period of time -- and is now batting .471 (16-for-34) in June.

After hitting his 11th and 12th home runs Wednesday, Myers is just one dinger shy of matching his career high of 13, set during an 88-game season in 2013.
"I had a similar stretch in 2013 after the All-Star break where I was pretty good," Myers said after the game, when asked if he's had a power surge like this before.
After the All-Star Game in 2013, Myers hit 10 of his 13 home runs and slugged .506 over 62 games for the Rays. That stretch is similar to the one he's had in 59 games this season, in which he has hit 12 home runs and slugged an identical .506.
So Myers is clearly able to put up the power numbers that were predicted back when he was rated the best power-hitting prospect in the Pacific Coast League in 2012. He's done it before, and he's doing it now.
Moving forward, it will be about staying healthy and consistent.
"Now it's a matter of as he matures -- can't forget he's 24 years old -- firing off that A swing more consistently," Green said. "When he does that, there's no limit to what he can do."
In addition to not placing any sort of cap on Myers' ability, Green mentioned how Myers would be a deserving All-Star candidate thanks to his recent hot streak.
Myers himself -- who has an American League Rookie of the Year Award to his name, but has yet to appear in an All-Star Game -- acknowledged that it would be a nice honor, but insisted that wasn't his focus.
"As soon as you let that get in your mind, your game's going to suffer," Myers said. "But yeah, as far as the All-Star team is concerned, I would love to make it. But you know that is definitely not my top priority right now, you just want to go out there and have a good at-bat each time."
