SAN DIEGO -- A week ago, Padres manager Andy Green stated his case for Wil Myers as an All-Star. Myers, who has four homers since, has done everything in his power to make his skipper look smart.
Still, in Major League Baseball's third All-Star voting update, which was released before Wednesday's game, Myers was not among the top five at his position. No Padres were listed among the leaders.

"He looks like [an All-Star] right now," Green said of Myers. "It's up to the voters to get out there and actually vote for him. I'm sure everybody would love to have some home representation here. ... It's a good crop of first basemen to choose from in Major League Baseball, but he's right in the thick of it."
With his four long balls in the past week -- including a clutch go-ahead blast in the ninth inning Friday night against Colorado -- Myers now has 14 homers on the season (a career high). He says, if he's asked, he'd be thrilled to represent the hometown Padres in the Home Run Derby at Petco Park.
"If I have the option to do it, I will 100 percent do it," Myers said. "It's something I always looked forward to when I was younger, and to be able to do it at the highest level would be pretty cool."
Myers has never participated in a Home Run Derby at any level. In 2012, he was asked to compete in the Pacific Coast League Derby, but that coincided with the All-Star Futures Game.
If Myers -- who entered play Wednesday with a .283/.324/.506 slash line and a 2.1 fWAR, which is second among big league first basemen -- isn't voted in, he's got a solid case for a bench spot.
"I've got a couple things working in my favor there," Myers said. "Being in San Diego and obviously Andy helping coach [the National League team]."
This season, Myers is one of the Padres' top All-Star candidates -- along with closer Fernando Rodney, who has not yet allowed an earned run, and left-hander Drew Pomeranz, who owns a 2.88 ERA and a .189 batting average against. Center fielder Jon Jay is also making a late case with his .328/.340/.463 June splits and a league-leading 22 doubles.
In 1978, Rollie Fingers and Dave Winfield represented the Padres in the first All-Star Game hosted by San Diego. Fourteen years later, five players, including Tony Gwynn and Benito Santiago, joined the list of Friars to represent the host city.
"That'd be great," Myers said of representing San Diego. "Obviously, it's a big year for me, coming off two injured seasons. ... To have a guy that has been here for a little while and is going to be here for a little bit longer, I think that'd be great for San Diego."
