Williams standing out at Area Code Games

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Tyler Williams entered this week's Area Code Games with one goal in mind.

"I wanted to stand out -- like pretty much everybody else," Williams said.

Mission accomplished.

The Peoria, Ariz., native captured Offensive Player of the Day honors on Tuesday with his 3-for-4, three-RBI effort. He added another couple hits on Thursday, turning heads with his speed, generated by a long, athletic stride.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound outfielder has a smooth swing that can generate some pop, as evidenced by a broken-bat double.

"All the competition from all around the country, it's very nice to see where I stack up against these guys," Williams said. "But really, I just play, and don't try to worry about it much."
