Lopez avoids arbitration, agrees to one-year deal

DENVER -- The Rockies and right-handed reliever Wilton Lopez reached a one-year contract on Thursday to avoid arbitration.

According to a Major League source, the deal is worth $2.2 million. By signing left-hander Franklin Morales on Wednesday and now Lopez to one-year deals, the Rockies have reduced their number of arbitration-eligible players by half. Outfielder Drew Stubbs and right-hander Juan Nicasio are left.

Lopez, 30, was obtained last offseason from the Astros and in 2013 led the Rockies in appearances with 75. He went 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA in a setup role.
