Free-agent shortstop Ronny Cedeno's three-run home run keyed a five-run fifth inning that helped Magallanes put it away. Adonis Garcia added two hits for Magallanes, which had nine hits in all.

It was the Brad Snyder show in this game. Snyder homered three times and drove in six runs to lead the rout for Mexicali, which also got homers from Chris Roberson and Christhian Presichi and two hits from former big leaguer Russell Branyan. Los Mochis won the game with three runs in the eighth inning, snapping a 1-1 tie. The big blow was a two-run homer off the bat of Ramon Orantes. Jake Fox homered for Los Mochis in the seventh.

Mayaguez was trailing by two runs in the bottom of the eighth but staged a dramatic rally capped by Kennys Vargas' three-run homer that turned out to be the game winner. It was Vargas' second homer of the game as the first baseman accounted for all of his team's runs. Box score
