Pair combines for seven hits, five RBIs to help club move within a game of first place

Dominican Winter League

Licey 12, Gigantes 9
Both teams did their scoring early and often in Saturday's game, and it was Licey who came out on top. Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Braves No. 3 prospect Christian Bethancourt went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. With the win, Licey moved within a game of first-place Escogido. Gigantes reliever Rafael Perez took the loss. Box score

Toros 6, Aguilas 5
Trailing for most of the game, Toros put up three runs in the eighth inning and came away with the victory. Hector Gomez had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Reliever Tony Pena. Jr. lost his second game of the season. Box score

Behind a balanced attack and solid pitching, Estrellas took the win. Brewers utilityman Elian Herrera went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and outfielder Felix Pie went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Andrew Sisco got his first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings. Box score

Caracas 11, La Guaira 6
Caracas used a six-run fifth inning to beat La Guaira Saturday night. Padres first baseman Jesus Guzman went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Astros outfielder J.D. Martinez went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Tyson Brummett took his first loss of the season, allowing five runs on six hits in four innings. Box score

Thanks to some timely hits and a solid pitching performance, Lara knocked off Carubes on Saturday. Guilder Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Pirates first baseman Andrew Lambo also went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Ramon Ramirez took his fourth loss of the season. Box score

Aragua's bats were on fire Saturday, as the team scored all 10 of its runs in just four innings. Wilson Ramos led the way, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Alex Romero went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Carlos Hernandez got the win, allowing three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Box score

In this back and forth battle, it was Margarita who came out on top after a game-winning pinch-hit single by Manny Pina. Breyvic Valera went 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI in the win. Reliever Chase Huchingson took his first loss of the season. Box score

Guasave 5, Navojoa 2
Zelous Wheeler went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Guasave. Japhet Amador also went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sergio Mora earned his second win of the season, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. Box score

Hermosillo 5, Obregon 2
The bottom of Hermosillo's order did most of the damage in a 5-2 victory over Obregon on Saturday. The seven through nine hitters notched four of the team's five RBIs. Arturo Lopez took his fourth loss of the season. Box score

Culiacan 5, Mazatlan 1
Francisco Campos had a great night on the hill, holding Mazatlan to just one run on six hits in 7 1/3 innings for his fourth win of the season. Walter Silva took his fifth loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in seven innings. Box score

Mexicali 4, Los Mochis 0
Mexicali scored all four of its runs in the first three innings and made them last. Edgar Osuna won his sixth game of the season, allowing just three hits in 5 2/3 innings. Ben Kozlowski took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in six innings. Box score

Mayaguez 5, Carolina 4 (15 innings)
It took 15 innings, but Mayaguez finally got the victory on a RBI single by Roberto Perez. Noel Cuevas scored from third after leading off with a double. Luis Figueroa went 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs. Willie Collazo took the loss. Box score
