Worth noting

• After missing Friday and Saturday's game while attending his daughter's graduation from Georgia Southern University, Gonzalez returned to San Francisco late Saturday night and was present for Sunday's series finale against the Giants.

• Because Brian McCann had some previous success against Tim Lincecum, Gonzalez opted to bat the veteran catcher third and move Justin Upton to the cleanup spot for Sunday's game. This alignment allowed him to put the right-handed Upton between two left-handed hitters -- McCann and Freeman.

• Ramiro Pena started at shortstop Sunday to give Andrelton Simmons a chance to rest. "[Simmons] plays so hard," Gonzalez said. "Sometimes, I just like to get him a breather."
