Worth noting

• Michael Morse was back in the Mariners' lineup at designated hitter on Thursday after missing the last seven games because of a strained right quad he sustained in the fifth inning of a May 29 game against San Diego.

"He went out there and ran again today a little bit," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "He's capable to play first base, but [head athletic trainer] Rick [Griffin] and I talked, and we think the smartest thing is to have him DH first and then see how that goes and go from there.

"So there will be some limitations on him, but it's not like he was a burner to begin with, so we just need him … not to go that extra mile on a base hit or trying to score or anything. He feels confident that he can do that, so that's good."

Morse struck out in each of his first three at-bats.
