Worth noting

• Zack Wheeler flew Wednesday to Tucson, Ariz., where he will join Triple-A Las Vegas before returning to the Mets next week in Chicago. The move allows the Mets to carry an extra reliever for their next five games in Atlanta and Philadelphia. Said manager Terry Collins: "He certainly understood the whole situation."

• Right-hander Luis Mateo underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last week, a source confirmed. Mateo, the organization's ninth-ranked player on MLB.com's 2013 Prospect Watch, was 4-5 last season for Class A Brooklyn, posting a 2.45 ERA with 85 strikeouts and nine walks in 73 1/3 innings.

• Shortstop Ruben Tejada has still not begun any lateral movement in his recovery from a strained right quad, which he suffered May 30 at Yankee Stadium. Tejada has been fielding ground balls directly at him, but has not yet run on his injured leg. The Mets have no timetable for his return.

• Infielder Josh Satin worked out at third base during batting practice Wednesday, which was notable for this reason: Collins said that David Wright will receive a day off soon, and with Justin Turner on the disabled list, Satin will fill in at third. He played five innings at the position during a big league callup in 2011, but none this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.
