• Major League Baseball and People Magazine on Wednesday announced the 30 "Tribute for Heroes" winners who will be honored at the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field. Helen Fumo of Manor, Texas, will represent the Mets. Fumo, 91, served in the Woman's Army Corps (WAC) from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. • Right fielder Marlon Byrd hit his 14th home run of the season Tuesday, an eighth-inning grand slam, and he's on pace to crush his career-high of 20 home runs he hit in 2009 with the Rangers. The 14 home runs already rank as No. 2 on his career list for a season. Byrd entered Wednesday's game with 47 RBIs, a career high before the All-Star break.

"He's some kind of strong," Collins said of Byrd. "He's changed his swing over the last few years. He's become more of a fly-ball guy. ... You look at his power numbers and playing at our field, pretty impressive. We play in a big, big ballpark, and he's hit some big homers there. I just think that's become part of his game now today. His production numbers in the middle of our lineup have saved us."
