Worth noting

• The Tigers recalled catcher Bryan Holaday from Triple-A Toledo on Monday to replace catcher Alex Avila, who was placed on the seven-day disabled list with delayed concussion symptoms on Sunday.

• Right-hander Octavio Dotel's rehab assignment has been moved to Class A Advanced Lakeland. Dotel, sidelined since April 20 with right shoulder inflammation, tossed two scoreless innings in two appearances in the Gulf Coast League.

"He's throwing some and he's doing OK," Leyland said. "He didn't have pain, so we'll just see how it plays out."

• Leyland said Monday that right-hander Justin Verlander will start the opener of Friday's doubleheader against the Royals, but he declined to say who would start the nightcap. Triple-A left-hander Jose Alvarez, who has made four starts for the Tigers this season and is on the 40-man roster, eems the likely candidate.
