Worth noting

Kolten Wong was back in the Cardinals' lineup Tuesday, after Mark Ellis started at second base Monday. Wong went into the game with just two hits in his last 16 at-bats.

"My swing feels good," Wong said. "I feel comfortable, confident and ready to go."

• Matheny was very excited about the way Eric Fornataro pitched in his Major League debut Monday, when he worked a perfect eighth inning.

"It was a great first outing," Matheny said. "That's a tough spot for a guy making a debut, in a game we're still in."

Yadier Molina extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a fourth-inning single on Tuesday, drawing him within two of his career-best 15-game streak in 2007.
