Worth noting

• Donnie Murphy made the sixth start of his career at first base Sunday. His debut there was June 1.

"We've got a left-hander [Detroit's Drew Smyly] when we get home," Washington said before the game. "I wanted to give [Murphy] some extra at-bats."

Murphy (sore left knee) had to leave the game in the bottom of the fourth, and was replaced by Brad Snyder.

• The Rangers entered Sunday at 12-15 since first baseman Prince Fielder (neck) went on the DL on May 22, the day Murphy was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

• Catcher Geovany Soto (left knee surgery) reported no soreness after consecutive days of squatting and catching pitches. His return timetable remains after the All-Star break.
