Worth noting

• Injured outfielder Collin Cowgill took swings off a tee on Friday for the first time since breaking his thumb and nose July 12.

Cowgill said he used a lighter fungo bat instead of a regular bat to take swings. He is expected back, barring setbacks, within two weeks.

• Left-hander C.J. Wilson, rehabbing a sprained right ankle, threw another bullpen session on Friday.

General manager Jerry Dipoto watched the session said Wilson looked comfortable and "threw the ball great." Manager Mike Scioscia said he would talk with pitching coach Mike Butcher to see how Wilson came out of the session.

• Along with the Anaheim Firefighters Association, the Angels are hosting the "Fill the Boot" fundraiser that benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Orange County and Riverside County.

Starting Saturday at 4 p.m. PT until the first inning, the Angels will ask fans to "fill the boot" with donations. Boots will be located outside the Diamond Club, Home Plate Gate and at Gates 1, 4 and 6.
