• Jim Schlossnagle, head baseball coach at Texas Christian University, was on the field during batting practice on Wednesday to watch his former Horned Frog player, Matt Carpenter. It was Schlossnagle's first visit to Busch Stadium III and just his second opportunity to watch Carpenter play professionally live.
• The Cardinals have unveiled a digital edition of their 2014 media guide, which can be downloaded on computers, tablets and smart phones for $10 at cardinals.com/mediaguide. The digital guide includes all the information in the printed version along with additional video, photos and team history. The Cardinals, who have printed an annual media guide since the 1950s, are the second team in Major League Baseball to offer a digital version, following the Yankees.
• Greg Garcia helped Triple-A Memphis to a 5-4 win over Round Rock on Tuesday with a two-out, tie-breaking single in the 10th inning. The victory ended the Redbirds' 15-game road trip, during which the team won 10 games. Grichuk hit his team-best 21st homer in the win.
• Mark Ellis has begun taking more ground balls at first base as the Cardinals ready him to be a backup option at the position. Allen Craig, before being traded, had been the backup at first. Daniel Descalso, Tony Cruz and Carpenter could also play first base if needed.
