Worth noting

• Following a rehab outing Wednesday at Triple-A in which he threw 68 pitches, Andrew Cashner is expected to throw around 80 for El Paso on Monday. That will likely be his final hurdle before returning to San Diego after being on the DL since mid-June with soreness in his right shoulder.

• Reliever Joaquin Benoit was unavailable Sunday, manager Bud Black said. With Monday's off-day, Benoit was given the additional rest after throwing three times in five days before the team arrived in St. Louis.

Jedd Gyorko became the franchise leader for home runs by a second baseman (31) Saturday when he launched a grand slam to lift the Padres in a 9-5 win against the Cardinals.
