BALTIMORE -- Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts extended his career-high hitting streak to 25 games, blooping a single to center field in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's 13-9 loss to the Orioles at Camden Yards.
For the second straight night, Bogaerts extended his streak in his fourth at-bat, connecting on a 2-2 pitch from reliever Brad Brach. In his previous plate appearances, Bogaerts struck out and grounded out against starter Mike Wright and popped out against reliever Vance Worley.

Bogaerts owns the Majors' second-longest hitting streak of the season, trailing only teammate Jackie Bradley Jr., who had a 29-game hitting streak snapped Thursday.

The 23-year-old shortstop leads the American League with a .347 batting average and has hit safely in 37 of his past 39 games. He finished 1-for-5 for the second straight night and is batting .384/.420/.589 (43-for-112) during the streak.
Bogaerts is five games shy of tying Nomar Garciaparra for the longest hitting streak by a Red Sox shortstop. Garciaparra hit safely in 30 straight in 1997.
