Gomes twice launches game-tying blast

TORONTO -- Yan Gomes took two swings and tied the game for the Indians on two occasions, but despite those efforts the Tribe saw their six-game winning streak come to an end in a 5-3, 10th-inning loss to the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night.

The Indians' catcher, who was dealt from Toronto to Cleveland in 2012, went yard to tie the game at 2 in the seventh before he knotted it up again in the ninth, ripping a solo shot off closer Roberto Osuna to keep the Tribe's hopes alive.

"Up to that point, you could tell he was frustrated swinging the bat," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said of Gomes. "Then he took two gorgeous swings, driving the ball to that part of the ballpark. It changed the game twice for us, let us keep playing."

It was Gomes' third multihomer game of his career and second of the season. He has three homers in his last three games. Eight of his 11 homers this season have come since the All-Star break.

Gomes' first shot left his bat at 104 mph and was projected by Statcast™ to land 426 feet away. His second, which came on a full-count fastball, left the bat at 105 mph and was projected at 400 feet.

"He called an amazing game and then backed it up with a couple of home runs, that's incredible," Indians starter Cody Anderson said. "He played a great game."

Michael Brantley also homered for Cleveland, which got all of its runs via the solo long ball. Brantley hit his 12th of the season and third in the last six games in the fourth, taking a fastball from Marco Estrada over the wall in right to make it a 2-1 Toronto lead.
