Yankees Acquire Minor League INF Tony Renda from Washington

Today the Yankees acquired minor league INF Tony Renda from the Washington Nationals in exchange for RHP David Carpenter. This season with Double-A Harrisburg, Renda batted .267 (55-for-206) with 31R, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 1HR, 23RBI and 13SB in 54G. He also drew 19 walks with only 15 strikeouts.

Over 367 games in four minor league seasons, Renda has a .288 (413-for-1,436) batting average with 252R, 83 doubles, 8 triples, 4HR, 153RBI, 161BB, 172K, 77 stolen bases (with 17CS) and a .366 on-base percentage.

The 24-year-old, who has primarily played second base during his minor league career, was the Nationals' second-round draft selection in 2012 out of the University of California, Berkeley.
