The Yankees have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with pitching coach Larry Rothschild, confirming that manager Joe Girardi's entire coaching staff will return for the 2017 season.
Originally named to the position prior to the 2011 season, Rothschild will begin his seventh season with the Yankees and his 43rd year in professional baseball as a player, coach or manager.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said this week that he planned to meet with Rothschild, whose contract expired at the end of the regular season.
"I'd like to have Larry back," Cashman said on Wednesday. "I don't have interest in recommending any coaching changes."
The Yankees finished the regular season with an 84-78 record, fourth place in the American League East. New York's 4.17 staff ERA ranked seventh among the 15 AL clubs.
Rothschild's pitching staff set a single-season franchise record in 2016 with 1,393 strikeouts. Additionally, the club led the AL with just 444 walks issued and have paced the AL with a 2.94 strikeout-to-walk ratio over the six years of Rothschild's tenure.
