Romine exits with thumb injury against Phils

TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees catcher was forced to exit in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's 3-1 victory over the Phillies after being struck on the right thumb with a wild pitch.
The club said that X-rays taken at an area hospital were negative.
Romine was clipped by an errant offering with right-hander on the mound. replaced Romine behind the plate.
Higashioka and Romine are competing to serve as the backup to this season. Romine is having a solid spring at the plate (8-for-25, .320), as is Higashioka (6-for-14, .429).
