NEW YORK -- Yankees top prospects Jorge Mateo and Gary Sanchez have been selected to represent the World Team against the U.S. Team in the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will be played at 7 p.m. ET on July 10 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected.
Futures Game rosters and scouting reports
The 21-year-old Mateo is the Yankees' No. 1 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, while the 23-year-old Sanchez has been rated as the team's No. 3 prospect.
In 69 games with Class A Advanced Tampa, Mateo is batting .270 (76-for-281) with 45 runs, eight doubles, eight triples, five home runs, 33 RBIs, 26 stolen bases and 24 walks. The speedy shortstop leads the Florida State League in stolen bases and is tied for the league lead in runs scored and triples.
Sanchez has played in 48 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .277 (54-for-195) with 25 runs, 16 doubles, one triple, eight homers, 31 RBIs, three steals and 10 walks. He has also appeared in one game with the Yankees this season (0-for-4).
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 18th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a contest as part of All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team, which has won each of the last six games, leads the all-time series, 11-6.
