Teixeira exits after bruising leg on foul ball
Yankees first baseman out of Tuesday's lineup despite negative X-rays
NEW YORK -- First baseman Mark Teixeira was forced to leave the Yankees' 8-7 win over the Twins in 10 innings on Monday night after bruising his right leg with a foul ball during a sixth-inning at-bat.
Teixeira was hobbled and returned to the plate, working a walk against Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson, but exited for pinch-runner Greg Bird during a pitching change. Teixeira was out of Tuesday night's starting lineup against right-hander Mike Pelfrey and the Twins.
"It just hurts to put any pressure on it right now," Teixeira said after Monday's game. "You don't want to get hit there, but just a bad spot."
The Yankees said that precautionary X-rays were negative. Bird later scored on Carlos Beltran's tying homer that made the score 7-7, then knocked a key double as part of the winning 10th-inning rally.

"That's the way baseball works sometimes," Teixeira said. "I kind of draw a walk there, and then Los hits a home run to tie it up, then Bird comes through with a big double late in the game. It's just a good win for the team."
