NEW YORK -- Despite impressive showings in Minnesota this past weekend, the two Yankees vying for spots representing the American League in the 2016 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard took steps back in the latest voting update.
Outfielder Carlos Beltran and catcher Brian McCann both dropped one spot on the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot this week, with Beltran dropping to 10th among outfielders and McCann falling to fourth among catchers. They have received 654,659 and 506,781 votes, respectively. McCann is chasing Royals catcher Salvador Perez, the AL's leading vote-getter (2,744,293), and Beltran is looking up at Angels star Mike Trout (2,324,597), as well as Red Sox teammates Jackie Bradley Jr. (1,725,672) and Mookie Betts (1,435,218).

Over a four-game series in Minnesota, Beltran and McCann combined to bat 9-for-27 (.333) with four home runs and six RBIs. The weekend raised Beltran's batting average to its highest point (.283) since mid-April and broke McCann out of a nine-game slump during which he hit 3-for-26 with no home runs.
For McCann, he said he believes the power surge might be just what he needs to get back to his more dominant hitting ways.
"I hope so," McCann said. "I've been grinding for a long time now and I haven't been getting any results. It was nice to put the barrel on some balls [Sunday]."

As for Beltran, his 18 home runs entering Tuesday were the second most among AL outfielders, trailing Baltimore's Mark Trumbo, who is just 30,000 votes behind Betts for the third starting spot on the All-Star team. Beltran attributes his resurgence to consistency at the plate.
"Honestly, all I'm trying to do is just be consistent and put up good at-bats," Beltran said. "Right now it seems like I'm getting good results. When you play 162 games, you've got to be aware that you're going to have good times, you're going to have not such good times in the game of baseball. You have to grind and you have to make sure you don't give away at-bats."
