Heralded Yankees prospect Aaron Judge has been placed on the Minor League disabled list due to a mild PCL sprain and a bone bruise on his left knee, the team announced Saturday.
Judge, the Yankees' No. 2 prospect and the No. 27 overall prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, exited Friday night's game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the sixth inning after he dove for a ball in the outfield and later ran to first base on a groundout. The outfielder reported feeling a pop in his knee before exiting. Judge immediately saw a team doctor Friday night and was re-evaluated Saturday, when an MRI revealed the injury to his left knee.
Judge was hitting .261 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs in 83 games of International League action, and was named the league's Player of the Month for June after hitting .343 and leading the league with nine home runs in 28 games. He was scheduled to participate in the IL Home Run Derby on Monday night.
The timetable for Judge's return is unknown at this point, according to the Yankees. The club stated that Judge will "not participate in baseball activities for an undetermined amount of time."
