Yankees' prospect Pirela set for game action in Florida

Infielder/outfielder on concussion DL after crashing into wall at Spring Training

BALTIMORE -- Jose Pirela has resumed baseball activities and will begin playing in extended spring training games next week, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Pirela, 25, is ranked as the Yankees' No. 24 prospect according to MLB.com and is currently listed on the seven-day concussion disabled list. He was enjoying a good spring before sustaining a concussion after colliding with the center-field wall in a March 22 game against the Mets in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Girardi has said Pirela would have likely made the big league roster following a late-spring calf injury to infielder Brendan Ryan. Instead, the Yankees acquired infielder Gregorio Petit from the Astros in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named.
