ARLINGTON -- Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig tried to pad his club's lead by stealing home during the seventh inning of Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Rangers, but left-handed reliever Alex Claudio made a strong throw to the plate to get him.
Puig reached with two outs in the seventh on a triple that bounced into the right-center-field gap. Puig went from home to third in 11.02 seconds, the second-fastest time for a Dodgers player since Statcast™ began tracking in 2015. The only faster time was Carl Crawford's 10.72 seconds on April 27, 2015. Puig also had a sprint speed of 29.5 feet-per-second on the play.

With Cody Bellinger at the plate and the count at 0-2, Puig got halfway down the third-base line before making a sprint for home, but he was thrown out by Claudio to end the inning and keep it a 2-0 lead for the Dodgers.
"Where Belly was at with that guy, I thought it was a heads-up play and a good risk," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "It didn't work out, but I appreciate the effort."
The Dodgers, however, used three solo shots from Bellinger, Manny Machado and Yasmani Grandal to secure a series sweep over the Rangers. Puig finished 1-for-3, and his triple was Los Angeles' only other hit on the night.
Had Puig stolen home, it would have been the first for the Dodgers this year. Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez each stole home last year.
