NEW YORK -- Yasmani Grandal is expected to catch on Tuesday and Alex Wood will start on Wednesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after receiving upbeat updates on the pair before Sunday's series finale against the Mets at Citi Field.
Grandal came out of Saturday night's game in the eighth inning with back spasms.
"He's doing well," Roberts said of Grandal. "There's a little residual soreness, but he's available to pinch-hit tonight, and I expect him to be ready to start on Tuesday."
Wood, who said fatigue was responsible for a drop in velocity while winning Tuesday in Atlanta, threw his between-starts bullpen session on Sunday, and the Dodgers took the unusual step of capturing the session on video to compare his mechanics.
"He feels good, and I had a good conversation with Alex," said Roberts, who was told by Wood that there was progress with a mechanical adjustment. "That's encouraging. I think a little bit of it was the fatigue and a little bit of it was the mechanics. He and [pitching coach Rick Honeycutt] worked through it, and he's really excited about making the start."
Worth noting
• Roberts said Clayton Kershaw, who has been rehabbing his lower back strain in Los Angeles while the team has been out East, will continue his recovery with the club in Arizona on Tuesday, when the Dodgers open a three-game series vs. the D-backs.
• Adrian Gonzalez (herniated disk) continues to progress in his rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City, and Andre Ethier (herniated disk) is rapidly closing in on beginning a rehab assignment, Roberts said.
• Roberts also said he had not received any reviews of Walker Buehler's first relief appearance on Saturday night for OKC. The right-hander is ranked by MLBPipeline.com as the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect.
Buehler, who has been on the radar for a September callup since Spring Training, had a rough outing. He was charged with three runs on two hits (including a solo home run) with a walk, striking out two in 1 1/3 innings. He was scheduled to pitch two innings, but was removed after throwing 36 pitches. Two of the runs charged to Buehler scored on a home run allowed by Jacob Rhame.
