PHOENIX -- Yasmani Grandal's right forearm strain has improved enough that Dodgers manager Dave Roberts now believes the catcher will be on the Opening Day roster.
Grandal will play in two Minor League games in Arizona at the end of the week and join the Dodgers for the final preseason Freeway Series game against the Angels on Saturday night.
Infielder Howie Kendrick, however, is farther behind in his recovery from a strained left calf muscle and will remain in Arizona, missing the entire Freeway Series and likely opening the season on the disabled list.
Roberts said he also expects rookie shortstop Corey Seager to be ready for Opening Day. After playing in a Minor League game on Tuesday, Seager will have a day off on Wednesday and go to California with the club to play against the Angels on Thursday night.
Outfielder Yasiel Puig (hamstring) and infielder Enrique Hernandez (rib) were in Tuesday's lineup for a day game against the Padres after starting a night game on Monday.
Roberts indicated that left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu's recovery from shoulder surgery has gone so slowly that June might be a more realistic return target than May. Entering Spring Training, it was thought Ryu might be ready for Opening Day.
He will throw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday and is scheduled to throw live batting practice next week.
Alex Guerrero (knee) hasn't participated in outdoor drills in more than a week and is likely headed to the disabled list.
