MILWAUKEE -- Yasmany Tomás continued his season-long trend of producing on the road by smacking two home runs and driving in five runs to back an outstanding pitching performance from Archie Bradley as the D-backs cruised to an 8-1 win over the Brewers on Wednesday night at Miller Park.
The D-backs jumped out in front with five runs in the first inning -- three on Tomas' homer to left-center. Tomas raised his average on the road to .302 as opposed to .223 at Chase Field, and 14 of his 17 home runs have come away from home.
It was a sloppy first two innings defensively for Milwaukee, which committed three errors in the first and two more in the second. Shortstop Jonathan Villar committed a pair of errors and right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis made three.

"We took advantage of some of their mistakes and got the five, and that was huge," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "Archie went out and was in a little bit of trouble in the first and got some breaks, and Archie pretty much cruised from there."
That was more than enough support for Bradley, who yielded one run over seven innings to raise his record to 4-6. The Brewers' lone run off him came in the seventh when Jonathan Lucroy doubled and later scored on Hernán Pérez's sac fly.

"It was a tough night," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "It was a strange night. You just put it in the rearview mirror and move on."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Road power: Tomas is tied with Baltimore's Mark Trumbo with five multi-homer games this year. All five of Tomas' multi-homer games have come on the road. The only D-backs player with more multi-homer road games in a season is Luis Gonzalez, who had six in 2001. Tomas has four homers through the first six games of this road trip.

"It starts in the cage and we were working on following the ball all the way to the bat," Tomas said of what's made the difference on this trip. "That's really important right now. That's why my results have been getting better."
Villar's early exit: The shortstop committed two errors and was caught stealing third base down five runs in the first, then exited the game after the second. No injury was announced regarding Villar's removal from the game, and cameras showed Counsell and Villar conversing at length in the dugout later in the game.

"It was due to the baserunning situation," Counsell said. "That's just something he has to improve on. He understands he made a mistake. We'll just move forward from it."
Said Villar: "That situation right there, that's my bad."
Defensive gems: After watching a first-inning lead slip away in the bottom half of the frame on Tuesday, the D-backs had to be a little concerned when the Brewers rallied in the first on Wednesday, but Tomas helped end the threat when he doubled Scooter Gennett off first base on Ryan Braun's liner to right to end the inning. Gennett was initially called safe on the play, but the D-backs challenged the call and it was overturned. Then in the fourth with a runner at third, center fielder Chris Owings made a sliding catch on Lucroy's sinking liner for the third out.

"Braun hit that pitch really well," Bradley said. "It just happened to be right at Tomas and [first baseman Paul Goldschmidt] did an unbelievable job slapping the tag on Gennett there. So to get out of that first inning, I was very pleased and knew that I needed to just roll with that."
Error mail: The Brewers set their season high for errors in a game, and did so 12 batters into the contest. Villar bobbled Phil Gosselin's grounder and then threw the ball into right field while trying to force him out at second on a Jean Segura chopper. On the same play, the right fielder Nieuwenhuis failed to corral the ball, allowing Gosselin to score. "I think Nieuwy will tell you he had a bad night," Counsell said. "He had a weird night. It wasn't carelessness. The two plays Johnny makes are tough shortstop plays you have to make. The ball in the hole with Segura is a very tough play. The ball coming in, that's a play shortstops get challenged with. It was odd, certainly. But not carelessness."

Nieuwenhuis entered the game with five career errors in 1,837 2/3 innings in the field. He committed three within two innings on Wednesday.
WHAT'S NEXT
D-backs: Lefty Robbie Ray will get the start on Thursday at 11:10 a.m. MST as the D-backs wrap up a four-game set at Miller Park. Ray took the loss in his last start against the Reds when he gave up six runs (three earned) over five innings. This will be Ray's first career outing against the Brewers.
Brewers: Milwaukee will look to take the series against the D-backs on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. CT. Right-hander Zach Davies will get the ball and is 7-1 with a 2.84 ERA over his last 14 starts.
