NEW YORK -- Yoenis Cespedes' resurgent June not only has him back among the league leaders in home runs, but also holding steady in his bid to start an All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
Cespedes has 1,759,302 votes in the latest National League tally released Wednesday by Major League Baseball. That puts him behind only Chicago's Dexter Fowler (2,003,115) and Washington's Bryce Harper (1,824,808) in balloting, and nearly half a million votes ahead of fourth-place Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward (1,271,107).
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 times.

Though second baseman Neil Walker and third baseman David Wright both rank among the top five vote-getters at their positions, both are also far behind the leaders -- and, in Wright's case, unable to participate anyway due to a potentially season-ending neck injury. That leaves Cespedes as the Mets' best hope to represent them in the starting lineup in San Diego.
That's not to say, however, that the Mets will only have one player at Petco Park. Noah Syndergaard is all but shoo-in to represent the Mets, along with perhaps one or two other pitchers. Cespedes participated in one previous All-Star Game for the American League in 2014, but did not start.
